Finding Clarity in the Quiet

Why Your Life Hits Snooze When the Moon Goes Void

You know that feeling when you wake up in the morning and everything just clicks? Maybe you’ve written a 2,000-word blog, meal prepped for the week, or cleared those 300 emails in your inbox before breakfast. And then on other days? You struggle to get out of bed, all the caffeine in the world isn’t helping you focus, and you just don’t understand what happened.

This is something I’ve struggled with, especially when I was employed and expected to turn up to work every day and give the same output as the day before. I’ve been told that I’m lazy, and I’ve spent a lot of time feeling like there was something wrong with me or that my lack of consistency was a personal failing.

Six years ago, all that changed when I rediscovered astrology and especially the moon. Astrology is a tool to understand yourself better. It’s full of moving parts and is so much more than just your star sign. Did you know that your birth chart is as unique to you as your fingerprint? It won’t be repeated for maybe another 26,000 years.

The moon rules our moods and our emotions, and is one of the biggest influences on our day-to-day life. When she goes Void Of Course, that is when a lot of us feel like our life has hit snooze. But what is a void moon? This is a common question I get asked. On this week’s blog, I want to answer that for you, because understanding the void moon is the first step in stopping that cycle of self-blame and starting to work with your energy instead of against it.

The Mother of the Sky Needs a Minute

To understand what is happening when the Moon goes void, you first have to understand that the planets are in a constant state of conversation with each other. The Moon is the Mother of the sky, and so, like any good mum, as she moves through the stars, she is checking in with the other planets and making sure everyone is okay. In astrology, we call these conversations aspects.

These conversations take many forms. Some of them are like teenagers in love, some make everything flow, while others are like hitting a brick wall. Eventually, like every other mum, the Moon has had enough of the constant noise and need for attention. She needs some alone time, a bit of peace and quiet away from everyone else. Time for herself.

This is what I mean when I say the moon is Void Of Course. Technically speaking, it is the time between when the Moon makes her last aspect to another planet and when she enters the next zodiac sign. This can last anywhere from a few minutes to over a day. During this time, she isn't talking to anyone. She has essentially put her phone on do not disturb, sat down in a quiet room, and closed the door.

Because the Moon rules our moods and our emotions, when she goes into that room and closes the door, we feel it. We are so used to her being the one who facilitates the chitter-chatter of our daily lives that when she goes quiet, we feel untethered. It’s that heavy, hazy feeling where you know you have things to do, but the vital energy to actually do them has vanished.

This is why the traditional wisdom says that anything started during a Void Moon will bear no fruit. Think about it: if you try to start a massive project or make a life-changing decision while you are at your absolute lowest point of exhaustion—when you are done for the day—how well is that project going to go? It’s not going to have your best energy. It’s not going to have that spark of life. It’s likely to fizzle out because it was born from a place of nothing left to give.

When the Moon hits snooze, our lives hit snooze too. And if you are that tired, exhausted mum who is constantly trying to be everything to everyone, trying to grind through a Void Moon is a recipe for disaster. This is the time when your body and your mind finally say no more. It’s when all the caffeine in the world won’t help you focus, because you aren't meant to be focusing on the outside world right now. You are meant to be in that quiet room with the door closed, just like the Moon.

The Guilt of the Snooze

Even when we understand the astrology behind it, the hardest part of a Void Moon isn’t the tiredness—it’s the guilt. We live in a society built on a 9-5 hustle culture that demands we turn up every single day with the exact same level of output. It’s a flat, rigid expectation that completely ignores the natural cycles of our bodies and the sky. In this world, if you aren't doing something and being productive, you are just lazy.

For mums, that pressure is suffocating. We are constantly trying to split ourselves in two. On one side, there is the pressure to work, to contribute, and to succeed in a career. On the other hand, there is the deep, primal need to be there for our kids, to be present, and to nurture. Because so many of us now work from home, that line between work and life hasn't just blurred—it’s vanished. Your office is your kitchen table; your work notifications are pinging while you’re trying to deal with a toddler tantrum or help with homework.

We are expected to be available all day, every day. We are reachable by email, WhatsApp, and social media 24/7. This constant on mode is exhausting, and it’s why the Void Moon feels like such a personal failure when it hits. When that heavy, hazy feeling takes over, and you can't force the productivity, the inner critic starts shouting. It tells you that you’re failing at work because you can't focus, and you’re failing as a mum because you’re too drained to engage.

This is the hustle culture trap. It teaches us that our worth is tied to our to-do list. It makes us feel like we have to justify our existence through how much we have achieved by 5:00 PM. But you cannot give what you do not have. Trying to grind through a Void Moon while carrying the weight of mum guilt is how we end up completely burnt out.

If the Moon, in all her power as the Mother of the sky, is allowed to put her phone on do not disturb and walk away from the chitter-chatter, then you have to give yourself permission to do the same. This isn't about being lazy; it’s about acknowledging that you are a human being with a finite amount of energy. When the Moon hits snooze, it is a signal that the external world can wait. It’s an invitation to stop trying to split yourself in two and instead, just be.

How to be Productive During a Void Moon

So, how do we actually navigate these periods without losing our minds or falling back into that pit of guilt? My absolute top tip is this: just take the time off. If the Moon is taking a break, why shouldn’t you? I know that isn’t practical for everyone—we have businesses to run, kids to feed, and deadlines that don’t always care about the lunar cycle. But it is an interesting rabbit hole to explore. Imagine what it would feel like to actually honour your body’s need for rest the moment the energy shifts, rather than waiting until you’ve completely crashed.

For the times when you can't just walk away, the key is to adjust your pace. Stick to your normal, everyday tasks. This is the time for the routine stuff that doesn't require a huge amount of brain power or fresh creative sparks. Work at a slower pace and build in extra breaks. If you’re used to sprinting through your to-do list, a Void Moon is your signal to move into a slow walk.

This is also a brilliant time to work on those behind-the-scenes projects that usually get pushed to the bottom of the pile. Maybe it’s some life admin, filing your receipts, or finally tidying that cupboard you’ve been ignoring. Or it could be the perfect time for a creative project that is just for you. When you do something creative during a void moon, there is no pressure for it to be productive or to lead to a sale. It’s just about the process.

I also use these windows for extra self-care activities. Whether that’s a longer shower, a walk without a podcast in your ears, or just sitting with a cup of tea in silence, these small acts of nurturing are vital when the Mother of the sky is doing the same.

The rule I always apply is simple: if you feel good and you are in flow with your work, then keep doing it. Astrology isn't about creating rigid new rules to beat yourself up with. If the words are coming and the energy is there, go with it. But the second it starts to feel heavy, and you feel tired—stop. Take a break. If the work becomes a struggle and you start feeling frustrated, that is the Moon telling you to go do something else for a bit. Don't force the work to come; it is like trying to squeeze water from a stone. The flow will return when it’s ready, but it won’t be forced.

The Power of the Pattern

If you really want to see the truth of this for yourself, I always recommend that you track your days for at least three full lunar cycles. It takes that long to stop seeing your bad days as random failures and start seeing them as part of a larger rhythm. You don’t even need to be an expert in astrology to start; you just need to be honest with yourself about how you are showing up each day.

I want you to track three main things: your energy levels (do you feel energised or fatigued?), your mood (do you feel happy, sad, or just flat?), and finally, how the day actually went. Be real about it—did you clear your to-do list with ease, or did you spend the afternoon sitting and staring out of the window, unable to string a sentence together?

You can do this with or without looking at the moon info for the day. In fact, sometimes it is better to just record your own reality first, so you aren't subconsciously trying to match the astrology. After a few weeks, go back and compare your notes to the lunar cycle. Look for the patterns.

Specifically, track the Void Moons and see how they make you feel. When you see on paper that your most frustrated, hazy days perfectly align with the moments the Moon was having her alone time, something inside you finally relaxes. You realise that you aren't broken, you aren't inconsistent, and you certainly aren't lazy. You are simply in sync with the sky. Once you have that proof, you can stop fighting the tide and start riding the waves.

Tracking the Moon

If you are ready to start looking for these patterns, you don’t need to be an expert. You just need the right tools to help you see where the Moon is and when she’s taking her break.

The tool I use most often is Astroseek. It is a fab website for all things astrology-related and is my go-to for an overview of the month ahead. If you prefer having information on your phone, Time Passages is a great app, but it only shows you the energy for the current day. You will find plenty of other moon tracking apps out there, but be mindful that most of them only give you the phase and the sign; they don’t track the void moon periods in advance.

Of course, if you want it delivered straight to you, I’ve got you covered. Every Sunday, I send out my Moon Energy Email. It’s a ritual I love, where I break down the energy for the week ahead so you know exactly when to push and when to lean into that snooze mode. I also post daily moon energy videos on social media, where I talk through the current transit and remind you when the moon is void, so you can stop the self-blame in real-time.

Astrology is ultimately a tool for self-understanding. It’s a map that helps you navigate your own internal landscape, and the moon is the primary guide for your day-to-day life. When you stop fighting the natural rhythm of the lunar cycle, you can finally let go of the impossible expectation of perfection.

We aren't meant to be on 24/7, and we certainly aren't meant to be identical versions of ourselves every single morning. The Void Moon is the universe's way of giving you permission to step back. Whether you choose to spend that time doing a hobby, catching up on life admin, or simply resting, the goal is to stop the struggle.

When you start working with your energy instead of against it, the self-blame disappears. You realise that your off days aren't a sign that you are failing; they are a sign that you are in sync with a much larger rhythm. Trust the quiet, embrace the snooze, and know that your fire and focus will return when the moon is ready to start talking again. You aren't broken, and you aren't lazy—you are just following the lead of the sky.
