The Aries Harvest Full Moon
Balancing Assertiveness, Relationships, and Personal Capacity
On Saturday, the 26th of September at 5:48 pm (BST), we have the Harvest Full Moon in assertive Aries. Think about what you are giving to other people and what you are getting back in return. This week’s blog will look at the energy around this Full Moon, how you can work with it, and where it will fall in your chart.
The Magic of the Harvest Moon
This Full Moon is called the Harvest Full Moon because it is the closest Full Moon to the Autumn Equinox, which is on Wednesday 23rd September. What is special about this Full Moon is that it will rise at the same time for several nights, providing extended evening light, which historically was used by farmers to help them finish their harvest. Hence the name.
Full Moons mark the halfway point in a lunar cycle. This is a time to celebrate your progress and achievements, to practise forgiveness and to release anything still holding you back. If you look back to the New Moon in the same sign, 6 months ago, then you should have accomplished whatever you set out to do then. And if you haven't, then you should have a really good idea of why not.
The New Moon in Aries was on the 17th of April. What intentions did you set then? What has stopped you from working on them? Are you lacking confidence somewhere? Full Moons are when we start to clear out the stuff we don’t need to create space for the things that we do want.
The Cosmic Tug-of-War: Aries Moon vs. Libra Sun
Not all Full Moons are the same. They are flavoured by the zodiac sign that the Moon is in at the time and influenced by the other planets. A Full Moon is always in the opposite sign to the Sun, giving us a tug-of-war between the energy of the two signs.
Under this Full Moon, we need to find a balance between our needs (Moon in Aries) and our most significant other's needs (Sun in Libra). Relationships are about give and take, and balancing the needs of one person without negativity impacting on the needs of the other. What do your relationships look like?
The Retrograde Landscape: Turning Inward
We have some big planets joining this Full Moon party, and they are all currently in their annual retrograde cycles, asking us to turn inwards.
Mars, the planet of drive and determination, is over in compassionate Cancer. This will make our drive protective, intuitive, and heavily influenced by shifting moods. Mars comes with a warning to slow down under this Full Moon. Impulsivity is likely to cause problems. Worst-case scenario: you do something you shouldn’t.
Saturn, the planet of karma and structure, is currently travelling backwards through assertive Aries. During this time, we are encouraged to look at our impulsive tendencies and instead build sustainable structures to help us achieve our personal goals. Saturn is encouraging us under this Full Moon to look back at how far we have actually come and give ourselves a well-deserved pat on the back.
Uranus, the crazy planet of chaos and mayhem, is also travelling backwards, but through curious Gemini. This is prompting us to overhaul mental patterns and question ingrained beliefs. Thanks to Uranus, this Full Moon is bringing happy endings. Let go of your expectations and allow the universe to surprise you with something better than you could have imagined. Something may come to an exciting but unexpected conclusion.
Neptune, the planet of dreams, is with Saturn travelling backwards in Aries. This is a time to face some uncomfortable truths, re-evaluate your goals and drop false hopes. During this Full Moon, Neptune wants us to pay attention to our dreams and symbolic messages. We can enjoy the sense of connection and oneness with universal love if our hearts are open.
Finally, we have Pluto, the planet of transformation, again travelling backwards, but this time in quirky Aquarius. This is a chance to pause and face your personal shadows. Look at your subconscious habits and internal power struggles. Under this Full Moon, Pluto is bringing positive breakthroughs in our understanding of why things are the way they are and what we can do to change them. Plug into your emotional power.
The Aries Archetype: Reclaiming Your Lead
Aries is one of the four cardinal signs, which mark the start of a new season when the Sun moves into them. These are the most goal-focused of the signs. They are active and restless, self-motivated and ambitious. Aries has themes around determination, assertiveness and confidence, making it an ideal Full Moon for looking at where you need to take more of a lead in your life. Where have you allowed others to make decisions for you? Have you taken a back seat in your own life?
As one of the three Fire element signs, Aries is energetic, enthusiastic and fearless. Have you been taking action on the things you said you want, or are you waiting around for something to happen? These signs can also be destructive, inconsiderate and selfish, so during the Full Moon think about where you might be showing these less desirable traits.
Have you been holding yourself back? Or do you need to practise more patience? Have you been taking responsibility for your actions, or lack thereof?
Journal Prompts for the Aries Full Moon
When looking at what is holding you back that you need to release under the Aries Full Moon, we can use the themes and energy of this sign to help us. Here are some questions you can ask yourself to get the most from this energy.
What is stopping me from being more assertive?
What is stopping me from being more courageous?
Where am I being reckless?
Where do I need to handle myself better?
Where am I arguing for the sake of it?
What anger am I holding onto?
This Full Moon, don’t allow fear or anger to make your decisions. If you are feeling restless or irritable, then doing physical activity can help to direct that energy into something more constructive. Think before you act and consider the impact it will have on others.
Moving forward, think about what has been stopping you from going after what you want, and how you can change that. Are you overcommitting your time to other people and projects? Do you need to take a step back to create the space and time you need for the projects that excite you? You can be more assertive without trampling all over other people. Remember to listen as well as speak. Full Moons are about give and take, finding the middle ground to move forward on.
