Stepping Into Your Light: The Leo New Moon Eclipse

On Wednesday, the 12th of August at 6:33 pm (BST), we have the New Moon Eclipse in courageous Leo.

Following the New Moon in Cancer, when we (hopefully) set our goals for the rest of the year, the Leo New Moon comes along to keep us excited about them. This week’s blog will look at the energy around this New Moon and how you can work with it.

New Moons mark the start of a new lunar cycle. This is a time to set out intentions for the next 4 weeks, which will help us to achieve our goals or maintain some aspect of our lives. Generally, anything started under a New Moon should be completed by the Full Moon in the same sign. This gives us a 6-month container to work with. (The Full Moon in Leo will be on the 22nd of January 2027) When making New Moon Wishes, you can go as big or as small as you like. If you make a big wish, you can break it down into smaller, manageable goals. This allows you to track your progress as you move through each lunar cycle.

Understanding the Leo Archetype

Not all New Moons are the same. They are flavoured by the zodiac sign that the Moon is in at the time and influenced by the other planets. A New Moon is always in the same sign as the Sun, giving us a double dose of the sign's energy to work with. This is why people work with this energy to set their goals.

Leo is one of the four fixed signs, which follow the cardinal signs and fix in place the things we have started. These are the most stubborn and devoted signs, which make them ideal for focusing on the goals set under the cardinal Moons. Leo has themes around determination, courage and leadership, making it a great New Moon to take the lead in your own life and go after what you want.

As one of the three Fire element signs, Leo is self-assured, enthusiastic, big-hearted, warm and loving. The fire signs are the most action-oriented and passionate. This can make Leo demanding and bossy. This is the sign of the zodiac that likes to show off, but they also like to shine a light on other people. This New Moon is a good time to start creative projects and friendships. Let your hair down and have more fun. Express yourself and open your heart.

Setting Your Leo Intentions

When setting your Leo New Moon intentions, we can use the themes and energy of this sign to help us. Here are some questions you can ask yourself to get the most from this energy:

  1. What are my intentions for this lunar cycle?

  2. How can I express my creativity?

  3. Where do I need to take the lead?

  4. Where do I need to be more confident?

  5. How can I be more generous and helpful?

  6. What brings me joy?

There are also some practical ways to work with this New Moon. Leo is associated with friendship, social activities, games and fun, making this an ideal time to arrange a social event and add more fun into your life. As a generous energy, where can you be more generous with your time? Could you support a friend or family member? This is also a good time to get organised and to be the leader in your life.

Astrology: Eclipses, Foundations, and Cosmic Timing

This New Moon is also an Eclipse. As it is a South Node Eclipse, we are releasing the past or giving something up. With Leo, we are looking closely at where we are seeking external validation. If you are trying to please everyone else, how can you be true to yourself? It’s time to step away from old, comfortable ways of doing things and step courageously into your own light.

The only planet offering any further guidance is a retrograde Saturn over in instinctive Aries. While the karmic planet of rules and regulations travels back through assertive Aries, we want to be reviewing our plans and strategy. Instead of rushing forward on pure impulse or trying to force immediate results, we are being called to pause and examine our foundations.

This New Moon Eclipse will be a good time for building structure and work situations. Is a new job or promotion on the cards for you?

It’s also worth noting that following the New Moon, the Moon will go Void of Course from 6:36 pm until 11:17 am on Thursday. During this time, the Moon isn’t talking to the other planets, and so it is advised to wait until after the Void period has ended before setting our intentions and making New Moon Wishes.
