Full Moon Eclipse in Pisces
On Sunday, the 7th of September at 7.08 pm (BST), we have the Full Moon Eclipse in emotional Pisces. Sitting inside your comfort zone isn’t going to help you move forward. You don’t need to take a giant leap of faith, small steps will get you there. You just need to remove the shackles and open yourself up to the possibility of something amazing happening. This week’s blog will look at the energy around this Full Moon, how you can work with it, and where it will fall in your chart.
The Full Moon in September is called the Corn Full Moon because corn is now ready to harvest. Other names included the Autumn Moon, Falling Leaves Moon, Leaves Turning Moon which referenced the changing season, and the Moon When Rice is Laid Up To Dry because rice was harvested and processed at this time.
Full Moons mark the halfway point in a lunar cycle. This is a time to celebrate your progress and achievements, to practise forgiveness and to release anything still holding you back. If you look back to the New Moon in the same sign, 6 months ago, then you should have accomplished whatever you set out to do then. And if you haven't, then you should have a really good idea of why not.
The New Moon in Pisces was at the end of February. What intentions did you set then? What has stopped you from working on them? Have you let unrealistic expectations hold you back? Full Moons are when we start to clear out the stuff we don’t need to create space for the things that we do want.
This Full Moon also happens to be the start of eclipse season. This happens twice a year and contains 2 or 3 eclipses each time. As this is a Full Moon, it is a lunar eclipse. This occurs when the Earth passes between the Sun and the Moon, and the Earth’s shadow dims the Full Moon. This will be a total lunar eclipse.
A total lunar eclipse happens when the Moon moves into the inner part of the Earth’s shadow. As some of the light from the Sun passes through the Earth’s atmosphere to reach the surface of the Moon, it is dimly lit. Here is the interesting science bit. Some colours have shorter wavelengths, such as the blues and violets, and so they scatter more easily than colours which have longer wavelengths, like red and orange. The longer wavelengths are able to make it through the Earth’s atmosphere while the shorter wavelengths are scattered away. This is what causes the Moon to appear orange or red during a lunar eclipse!! The more dust or clouds present in the Earth’s atmosphere during the eclipse, the redder the Moon will appear!!
Eclipses are when the Universe changes gears, this is a change of speed which will enhance whatever is going on. If you have wandered off your path then you can expect the Universe to course correct for you now. This could well come in the form of a disaster. It is important to remain positive, to look for the lesson and to know that everything is happening for you, not to you.
This is also a North Node Eclipse, (the point where the moon's orbit crosses the Sun's path) which is a time to take things in and follow guidance. In Pisces, this is a time to connect with your own inner guidance, listen to your intuition and break down the things stopping you from moving from where you are now to where you want to be.
Not all Full Moons are the same. They are flavoured by the zodiac sign that the Moon is in at the time and influenced by the other planets. A Full Moon is always in the opposite sign as the Sun, giving us a tug-of-war between the energy of the two signs.
Under this Full Moon, we need to find a balance between our need for inner peace (Moon in Pisces) and all our duties (Sun in Virgo). Do you feel like you are being pulled in multiple directions? Do you never get time for yourself because you are always so busy helping everyone else? It’s time to change that and create the space that you need for you.

This Full Moon Eclipse has two planets influencing the energy. The first is Mercury, the planet of communication, which is currently in Virgo. This is giving us a more practical way of thinking and so its a good time to decide what is useful and what is just not practical.
Mercury is encouraging ongoing conversations to come to a point of resolution or agreement. An important fact or piece of information may also come to your awareness.
Thanks to Jupiter this Full Moon is overflowing with good feelings, a sense of joy and abundance. There is also a higher than normal chance of an aha moment.
Jupiter is a lucky planet associated with adventure, exploring, and growth. Currently over in the home and family sign of Cancer, we can think about what we want to grow at home, but also be mindful of your boundaires under the Full Moon.
Pisces is one of the four mutable signs, which bridge the gap between the fixed, stubborn signs, and the start of a new season. These are the most resourceful and flexible of the signs. They can embrace the ebb and flow of life and adjust to new circumstances. Pisces has themes around dreams, spirituality and instincts, making it an ideal Full Moon for looking at where you haven’t trusted yourself. Where have you been playing the victim instead of taking responsibility? Or allowing indecisiveness to stop you from taking action?
As one of the three Water element signs, Pisces is imaginative, sentimental and intuitive. These signs feel everything deeply so during the Full Moon it may be helpful to lean in the Sun in Virgo energy and try some grounding and centering practises. Sometimes a dash of logic can help.
Are you listening to your inner guidance? Do you pay attention to those gut feelings you get or just ignore them? Pisces will often want to run away and escape rather than face reality, where has that shown up for you lately?
When looking at what is holding you back that you need to release under the Pisces Full Moon, we can use the themes and energy of this sign to help us. Here are some questions you can ask yourself to get the most from this energy.
Where am I deluding myself?
Where am I giving too much?
How can I dissolve depression?
Where am I playing the victim?
Why do I not trust myself?
Where am I indecisive?
This Full Moon is a powerful time to face your fears and connect with your intuition. As the last sign of the zodiac, the Full Moon in Pisces is great for closing doors and finishing projects. With this also being the start of eclipse season, get really honest with yourself about why you haven’t been making progress on your goals, and where you might be pointing the finger instead of taking personal responsibility. And if you do find yourself up a creek without a paddle, then take the time to enjoy the solitude, appreciate the beauty around you, and to form a plan of future action. It’s nearly always not as bad as you think it is. And when you look back, you will see it for the blessing it was.
