Libra New Moon
On Tuesday (21st October) at 1.24 pm (BST) we have the New Moon in balanced Libra. The Sun moved into Libra on Monday, 22nd September, marking the start of a new season with the Autumn Equinox. With day and night at equal length, our focus is naturally drawn to the balance in our lives. As the season visibly changes around us, we are reminded of the beauty of nature and the abundance she provides us with. When we look at the balance in our lives, this is more about where you are focusing your time and attention, and where do you want to focus it? Different seasons of life will call for us to focus more on one area of our lives than another. This week’s blog will look at the energy around this New Moon and how you can work with it.
New Moons mark the start of a new lunar cycle. This is a time to set out intentions for the next 4 weeks, which will help us to achieve our goals or maintain some aspect of our lives. Generally, anything started under a New Moon should be completed by the Full Moon in the same sign. This gives us a 6-month container to work with. (The Full Moon in Libra will be on the 2nd of April 2026.) When making New Moon Wishes, you can go as big or as small as you like. If you make a big wish, you can break it down into smaller, manageable goals. This allows you to track your progress as you move through each lunar cycle.
Not all New Moons are the same. They are flavoured by the zodiac sign that the Moon is in at the time and influenced by the other planets. A New Moon is always in the same sign as the Sun, giving us a double dose of the sign's energy to work with. This is why people work with this energy to set their goals.
Libra is one of the four cardinal signs, which mark the start of a new astrological season and start a new cycle. These are the most goal-focused and ambitious signs which make them ideal for setting goals for the quarter. Libra has themes around relationships, balance and refinement, making it the ideal New Moon to set intentions around improving your relationships, finding a balance that works for you, and bringing more beauty into your life.
As one of the three Air element signs, Libra is social, impartial, diplomatic, fair and partner-oriented. The air signs are the most curious and intellectual. This can make Libra indecisive and superficial. This is the sign of the zodiac that likes to make sure everyone is getting along, settles disputes and loves aesthetics. This New Moon is a good time to settle legal disputes and find harmony in your life. What do your relationships look like? Where do you need to compromise or cooperate more? What conflicts do you currently have that you could settle now?
When setting your Libra New Moon intentions, we can use the themes and energy of this sign to help us. Here are some questions you can ask yourself to get the most from this energy.
What are my intentions for this lunar cycle?
Where can I be more creative?
How can I improve my relationships?
Where am I being indecisive?
Where do I feel out of balance?
Where do I need to compromise?
There are also some practical ways to work with this New Moon. Libra is the sign associated with relationships of all kinds, so organising a social event or networking and making new contacts is a great way to work with the energy. Another strong theme with Libra is music and the arts, this is the most elegant and refined of the signs after all, so taking time to appreciate the beauty around you, creating art or listening to music all work well with this New Moon. You may also want to redecorate or make changes at home. This is also the ideal time to compromise to resolve any disputes.
We have two of the big planets turning up to crash the party of this New Moon. Jupiter, the lucky planet that brings more, and Pluto, the planet of transformation.
Jupiter is currently in Cancer, encouraging us to look at the things we want to grow at home and in our family. This could be home improvements or a bigger home. Being more frugal by looking at your budget and setting saving goals. Whatever it is for you, Cancer is a cardinal sign, so it doesn’t wait to feel secure, it takes action to make it so.
This New Moon, Jupiter comes with a warning. Make sure the goals that you set, or the wishes that you make, are something you actually believe you can accomplish. Nothing kills dreams quicker than self-doubt.
Pluto has recently finished its yearly backtrack through Aquarius and is currently sitting right at the start of this forward-thinking sign. When it comes to Pluto, we are looking at burning it all down to the ground and rebuilding from the ashes type of transformation. The Tower in Tarot, or the Phoenix in mythology. In Aquairius, this is communities, technology and science. So now the retrograde has ended, what have you learned? How do you feel about your own independence and what changes do you want to make to your friendships or how you use technology?
This New Moon, we can go to hidden places and uncover hidden truths. Just watch out for getting more than you bargained for. Pluto’s influence doesn’t mess around, and while profound transformation is possible, it’s unlikely to be in an appealing or easy form.
Really think about your own health and how you look after yourself, as well as the relationships in your life. Are they supportive? Do they help you to grow? Are you giving everything to everyone else and leaving nothing for yourself?
